✦ Our Story

How Andaman Legal came to be

Andaman Legal was established by practitioners who had spent years observing a recurring difficulty: individuals and families navigating Thai immigration requirements were frequently given incomplete or overly general guidance, often by people whose primary interest was not immigration law at all.

The practice was founded with a single purpose — to offer careful, individualised advice on Thai visa and immigration matters to people settling in or around Phuket Province. From the outset, the approach has been to understand each client's personal circumstances before suggesting a course of action. The immigration categories available in Thailand vary considerably in their requirements, renewal conditions, and long-term implications, and the correct path for one person is rarely identical to the correct path for another.

Our office is located on Chao Fa West Road in Wichit, a working neighbourhood on the southern edge of Phuket City. We receive clients by appointment and are available by telephone during office hours. For clients who are not yet in Thailand, initial consultations can be arranged by video call.

We work with individuals considering their first visa application, with families managing dependent or marriage-based visa matters, and with long-standing residents who are considering applying for permanent residence or Thai citizenship. Each of these situations calls for a different engagement, and we structure our work accordingly.

Our guiding principles

Accuracy over speed

We take the time to understand the details before offering any view. A considered opinion given a little later is more useful than a hurried one given promptly.

Plain language

We write and speak in plain English. Immigration law in Thailand contains a good deal of technical language, but our clients should not need a legal dictionary to understand what we are telling them.

Transparency of cost

Our fees are set out in advance. We distinguish clearly between our professional charge and any government or third-party disbursements, so you can plan with confidence.

✦ How We Work

Professional standards we hold ourselves to

Compliance with Thai law

All advice and documentation we prepare conforms to current Thai immigration statutes and Ministry of Interior regulations, and is updated as those change.

Client confidentiality

We hold all client information under professional confidentiality obligations. Information is shared only where necessary to progress your matter.

Written documentation

Our advice is delivered in writing so that you have a clear record of what we have recommended and why, which you can refer back to at any point.

Realistic expectations

Thai immigration offices operate on their own timelines. We tell you what is realistically likely, not what you might hope to hear, so that your plans are built on sound ground.

Transparent billing

Fees are discussed and agreed before an engagement begins. We itemise our charges and separate disbursements clearly, so there are no unexpected costs.

Responsive communication

We aim to respond to all client messages within one business day. You should not be left wondering what is happening with your matter.

Immigration and visa law in Phuket — what shapes our practice

Thailand maintains a structured immigration framework administered by the Immigration Bureau under the Ministry of Interior. For foreign nationals residing in Phuket, understanding which visa category applies — and what that category requires in terms of documentation, financial thresholds, and renewal conditions — is the foundation of a stable long-term stay.

Phuket's international community is diverse. There are retirees from Europe, Australia, and North America who arrived on retirement visas and have since put down deeper roots. There are mixed-nationality families, often formed when a foreign national met and married a Thai partner. And there are people who have worked in Thailand for many years on business or investment visas and are beginning to think about permanent residence.

Each of these situations involves a different set of considerations. The retirement pathway is relatively well defined but requires ongoing financial documentation. The family pathway involves Thai civil registration, the marriage visa, and the management of annual renewals. The permanent residence pathway requires a sustained period of eligible visa status, language and cultural assessments, and a multi-year engagement with the Ministry of Interior.

Andaman Legal works within all three of these areas. Our office is located in Wichit, which places us close to the Phuket Immigration Office and well placed to handle matters that require in-person attendance on behalf of clients.
